We need to invest in services for children, young people and families. There is clear evidence that healthy behaviours in childhood and the teenage years set patterns for later life and if we provide appropriate support for children and young people, society as a whole can reap the benefits of a next generation that is healthier and happier.
It is our aim to ensure we are ‘doing the right thing at the right time’ to support children, young people and families across Devon. We know how important it is to them that they are able to access the care and treatment that is right for them, as close to home as possible.
We want care for children and young people to be joined-up and seamless to ensure the best possible outcomes for them. We want to support children and young people, including those with complex needs and the most vulnerable, with multi-agency co-ordinated care, as close to home as possible and to ensure that as they move into adulthood, their ongoing care needs are met seamlessly.
We also recognise the need to support the emotional well-being and mental health of children and young people, providing early, proactive help in supportive communities to prevent mental illness and promote good mental health and wellbeing.
